On the occasion of the 50 th anniversary of that tragic night-- the night of the events of 6-7 September 1955, in Istanbul, during which the
material and psychological devastation endured by the Greek population surpassed by far even the anticipated targets, set by the organizers-- we attempt a
brief historical retrospection aiming at the fulfillment of a duty, to a minimum. A duty to history. So as to be able to face our own recent history without
fear and passion—the history where we acted both the role of the extra, and of the leading actor—and to avert possible future mistakes. The articles that
have been selected come exclusively from writers, journalists, poets and historians that come originally from Istanbul, except the confidential report of
late Greek ambassador Vyron Theodoropoulos, Consul General in Istanbul in September 1955.
